Battalion 3, Engine Co. 2, Engine Co. 22, and Division Chief of Safety along with an Engine Co. and Tanker from Culver/West Brevator/Arrowhead Fire Departments responded Sunday afternoon into St. Louis County on a report of a vacant house on fire off of Pine Drive. Upon arrival, the structure was totally involved with roof and 2 sides already collapsed into the basement. Embers and direct flames also started a fast moving grass fire in the field in which the house was located on. Units from FDL Forestry and MN DNR were dispatched to the scene as well to assist in suppressing the wildfire.
A defensive attack was originated with 1 3/4 handlines and crews pushed the rest of the structure into the basement foundation. Once this was completed, the fire was contained with no threat of extension or igniting other wildfires. Crews then utilized tankers to spray down the burning material deep inside the foundation. Investigators from the CAFD along with FDL PD initiated cause and origin investigation as this fire is suspicious in nature. The cause remains under investigation
